Here we have another pro driver and his 2001 Nissan 200sx s14a. This drift car is owned and driven by Dan O’Brien.
Dan has not always been a pro drifter it all started in 2007, he had been drifting and practicing for many years but in late 2007 he finally Obtained his Amateur British Drift Championship License, In an Automatic 200sx.
In the following 2008 season he ended with an overall 6th placement competing in the same Automatic drift car he got his license in, the 6th place rewarded him a promotion to the Pro Class of the championship, , at the end of this season he decided a manual conversion was in order for his automatic 200sx.
2009 was Dan’s first season in the pro class of the British drift championship, Dan says “The pro class proved to be harder than i first thought it would be, Showing flaws in what was a very basic car”. Dan finished this season in mid table. During this season being a pro driver Opportunities arose to attend other shows and do drifting demonstrations, allowing Dan to push himself and his car further into the public eye.
Towards the end of 2009 Competition Clutch saw the potential of what Dan could achieve and came on board as sponsors, Dan said “this was a fantastic push forward as by the beginning of the 2010 season I also had S-Max Intercoolers, Ultralite Wheels, Xquisite Automotive, Hel Brake Lines & MPH Customs on board as sponsors”. So the 2010 season was something to look forward to.
The 2010 season was a fantastic year for Dan with round finishes of 4th and 8th places and an overall place of 11th. Giving the quality of the pro class Dan’s previous rookie status was fading fast and he was gaining respect from the other pro drivers and many of the championship followers. In 2010 Dan also launched his Facebook fan page: Visit here https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dan-OBrien/115214568835, which now has over 1500 fans and followers of his season by season updates, Dan said ” I am totally blown away by the positive support and amount of followers i have received from facebook and i hope to see more this season”.
In 2011 the new Super Professional Class was born, this is a class devolved for the top drivers in the uk to battle it out against each other, after his final placements in 2010 he had gained his place in the new super class, also Competition Clutch decided they wanted full sponsorship rights to the car and to develop a team, bringing some of the other sponsors forward with the project, S-Max Intercoolers and Ultralite Wheels also stayed on board, Working with the above companies the plan was to build a 2 car team of competitive cars, unfortunately the budget that was originally allocated for the team was not available due to circumstances beyond their control. Although that didn’t stop Dan from qualifying 3 times for the top 16 and finishing 4th in the final round in a car that had half of the power of most of the field. This gave Dan an overall of 13th place on the standings, absolutely fantastic given 4 years ago Dan started at the bottom of the amateur class.
We will be following Dan in 2012 just like thousands of other fans and keep updating his results and find out whats going on in his life so keep tuned into world tuning fans!
