Today we bring you the 17th annual Mini Vs Beetle shoot out along side the Ultimate RWYB Shootout, York Raceways Burnout competition and Drag Racers Test & Tune, with Minis from Layland to BMW ranging from standard to highly tuned and modified, Minis with Honda vetec engines, motorbike engines and even twin-engine Minis.
While we see Beetle’s from both the street and drag racing worlds putting down times and speeds that should never be possible with a car designed 70 years ago. With a few campers for good look. The start of the day began with the qualifying sessions, The Minis were not allowed to run against the beetles until the qualifying runs were done
At around 3pm the main event started, the Minis queued up along side the Beetles then fired down the 1/4mile two by two, each win counted as 1 point. Last year the Minis were victorious against the beetles but no one knew what was going to happen, well it was a shock result as it ended as a tie between the Minis and Beetles, so no blagging right for either this year, lets hope nexy year gives us a winner.
Apart from the Mini Vs Beetle shootout York Raceway was holding its first ever, rolling burnout competition over the Easter bank holiday. Participants were encouraged to drag their burnouts across the startline or to keep it in for as long as possible and maybe even do figure of 8s in the centre of the track. There was no restriction to the type of vehicle. And no restriction to the use of props like flares and no pressure to burst the tyres, the perfect opportunity to send off an old pair of tyres or to bed in a new set. This competition was not about sitting stationary and seeing who could burst their tyres first this was about style, panache and more importantly skill. Please see the pictures of all the smoking madness.
